"To proclaim Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. To strengthen the faith
of all believers. To encourage a sharing community of Christian love
and fellowship, and to sustain the Kingdom of God on earth by offering
opportunity of worship, study, prayer, witness, service and stewardship."
The purpose of the First Christian Church shall be as revealed in
the New Testament: to win people to faith in Jesus Christ, to commit
them actively to the Church, to help them grow in the grace and knowledge
of Christ so that increasingly they may know and do His will, and to
work for the unity of all Christians and with them engage in the common
task of building the Kingdom of God.
The congregation's constitution provides for a General Board made
up of the Church Board Officers, elected Elders, Diaconate, Trustees,
Committee Chairpersons, representatives of the Christian Men's Fellowship
(CMF), Christian Women's Fellowship (CWF) and Youth Groups who have
been elected to serve during the current year.
The General Board transacts all business matters not reserved specifically
for the congregation.
The task of administering the program of the church is delegated to
the functional departments.
The Minister's Cabinet meets to plan and coordinate the church program
consistent with the policies of the General Board.
First Christian
Church of Leavenworth is affiliated with the Christian Church (Disciples
of Christ). The Christian Church was founded in the early 1800's as
an American Frontier movement to restore the practices and unity of
the early church. We are the oldest denomination established in the
United States with approximately four thousand congregations and one
million members.
First Christian
Church of Leavenworth is the oldest Disciples of Christ congregation
in the state of Kansas. It was organized in the summer of 1855. The
original Sanctuary, at this site, was built in 1859. Where it stood,
now stands the educational wing. In 1959, the Sanctuary was built atop
Fellowship Hall constructed in 1926. Members of the congregation erected
a new administration building in 1991.

AND PARSONAGE, 1919-1925

At First Christian
Church you will find a staff and ministers who are truly concerned for
your spiritual welfare and a congregation that is friendly and helpful,
with a great deal of fellowship and love in their hearts.
As members
of the Christian Church, we confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son
of the Living God, and proclaim Him Lord and Savior of the world.
In Christ's
name and by His grace we accept our mission of witness and service to
all people.
We rejoice
in God, maker of heaven and earth, and in the covenant of love which
binds us to God and one another.
Through baptism
into Christ we enter into newness of life and are made one with the
whole people of God. In the communion of the Holy Spirit we are joined
together in discipleship and in obedience to Christ. At the table of
the Lord we celebrate communion each Sunday, lifting up the saving acts
and presence of Christ. Within the universal church we receive the gift
of ministry and the light of scripture. In bonds of Christian faith
we yield ourselves to God that we may serve the one whose kingdom has
no end. Blessing, glory and honor be to God forever. Amen.
You may become
a member of First Christian Church in two ways:
CONFESSION
OF FAITH FOLLOWED BY BAPTISM
All

that they believe that Jesus is the Christ and the Son of the Living
God and accept Him as personal Lord and Savior. This confession of
faith is followed by baptism by immersion.

We
receive people into membership by transfer upon their statement. We
accept a person's previous baptism by any form as long as that baptism
was meaningful to them.
